Title: safety of emergency pipe screen
Post by: PoisonedDestiny on December 22, 2011, 08:18 am
after years of conservative smoking with one hitters in lieu of some hashy goodness i picked up a lil baby glass bowl.  i forgot screens and haven't had time to get to the tobacco store and the hole is ridiculously large.  i bent some pieces of paperclip into a lil coil of screen and have been using it like a glass screen (like a little linked jack).  melting point o' aluminum is like 1200 F.  is my lighter making those temperatures for sustained hash melting?  any dangerous vapor or is this safe?

If your paper clip is 100% of a certain metal you could be fine but if you have a Zinc coated one or something impure..  :-X

As a general rule, torch the hell out of any material before putting it in your bong to get rid of any coating. Most metals will have some kind of coating. Hold onto it with a pair of pliers and burn it for a couple minutes. Watch for smoke coming off of it as a sign of the coating burning away.

I find it is easier to jam a chunk of weed into the hole to act as a screen and stop the finer stuff falling through, even a piece of stem is enough usually. If you only have hash, you could jam a piece of parsley in.

thanks everyone.  yea i used to use lil pieces of weed but for some reason this little bowl has pulled everything through.  i've never had one this small.  but i did a short burn off with it but just did a longer one just in case!  gonna get a new screen tom

Vape it in a meth pipe or crack stem.
Easy cheap solution.
